Why practice yoga?
– Why Practice yoga?
Yoga is more than the pose (asana), It is who YOU are in the pose.
What YOU are saying to yourself.
Your internal dialogue.
Are your words kind, honest, positive or true? Maybe they are negative & based on outdated beliefs?
The more we practice yoga, the more we get to know ourselves, be it in the discomfort of the stillness of savasana or in an active yoga pose. We notice our thoughts, our beliefs, our narrative. Yoga provides us with an increased level of self awareness. Yoga is a journey inwards.
My Yoga Journey
I was the typical ‘Type A’ always doing, never being.
My life was all go, go, go. I thrived on ‘being busy’, ‘always doing’, ‘being productive’, never pausing for a second. Never considering my breath, never truly finding stillness. ‘I felt overwhelmed with a lack of clarity and needed space to just breathe. ‘
‘I would often attend yoga classes and just lie on the mat, just breathe, just be.’
My hectic lifestyle eventually led to burnout, I knew something had to change. I embarked on my yoga teacher training – I wanted to find balance and a new way of being, to slow down and become more present with myself and others.
This amazing opportunity- removing myself from the rat race allowed me to reset. It gave me the space to evaluate my lifestyle, to find clarity. Yoga enabled me to connect to my breathe, to connect to myself, to gain clarity and to connect to my thoughts and my emotions.
‘Yoga provided that safe space to just be, to breathe, to find inner stillness.’
Yoga provided me with so many benefits on so many levels – emotional, mental and physical
It helped me to relax a little more, to manage my stress, it created space in my mind for my ideas to flow, it improved my mind body connection.
Yoga has allowed me to be more present -live in the moment, not in my head.
It helped me to process and move stuck emotions in my body.
It taught me how to mange my emotions better.
Yoga helped to stimulate my PNS – the calming part of my nervous system.
Yoga enabled me to connect to my body on a more conscious level.
It helped me to reduce stress and tension in my body.
Yoga has been a great tool, allowing me to prioritise space for myself, filing up my own cup, so as I can better provide for others.
Need to…
Slow down, switch off, breathe?
Get out of your head and back into your body.
